Electronic submission guidelines

In general, Dr. Manson likes to minimize the clutter in his already cluttered office, and for that reason, all assignments must be submitted in electronic format. The only exception to this rule is in-class exams that are (for now!) on paper and any other assignments where the instructor specifically asks for non-electronic submission.

Naming convention

For both email subject lines and file names, please use the following naming convention. Files or emails with incomplete names will not be accepted.

   <Course number>_<Last name>_<Assignment name>

   e.g., Geog8292_Smith_Final_literature_review
   e.g., Geog5563_Smith_Lab02

Emails

Send your submission by email to the instructor. When emailing the assignment:

  • Follow the naming convention above for both the subject line and file name
  • Use one of the approved formats noted below
  • Submit one assignment per email
  • Do not write a message about another aspect of the class because I may not immediately open an email with an assignment attached

Files

An assignment can be submitted in a variety of ways and in a variety of formats, but typically all of these involve a file of some sort. Use the naming convention noted above.

Written assignments can be submitted in one of the following formats:

  1. PDF (Adobe Acrobat, v.7 or higher) [Preferred]
  2. Microsoft Word, v.9 or higher
  3. RTF (Rich Text)
  4. Text

Presentations can be submitted in one of the following formats:

  1. Microsoft Power Point (PPT, v. 4 or higher) [Preferred]
  2. Apple QuickTime
  3. PDF (Adobe Acrobat, v.6 or higher), but only when translating from a non Power Point format

Computer code can be submitted in one of the following formats:

  1. Native code file recognized by a development environment (e.g., *.c, *.j, *.cs) [Preferred]
  2. Text file

Media

If you cannot send your file via email, deliver it by hand on CD or DVD to the mailbox of the course instructor in the Department of Geography, 414 Social Sciences
